BARCLAYS
AFRICA executives have been visiting a number of countries of presence in
Africa where they are meeting with clients, regulators, local boards and
employees.
During the
visits, which include Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda and Botswana for the
first leg, the executives have been discussing the bank’s Africa strategy as
well as sharing global, regional and country economic insights with key
stakeholders.
The
executives include Barclays Africa Chief Executive and Head of Africa Group
Strategy Kennedy Bungane, Chief Executive of Africa Retail and Business Banking
Craig Bond and Chief Executive of Absa Financial Services Willie Lategan.
Commenting
on the visits, Mr Bungane said: “Africa’s growth story has been unprecedented
in recent years, with the continent being the fastest in the world after Asia.
Seven of the top 10 fastest growing economies in the world between 2011 and
2015 will be in Africa.”
He added:
“Our combined geographical footprint between Absa and Barclays Africa and our
long history and unique capabilities across Africa give us a great opportunity
to help facilitate economic growth across the continent.”
Mr Bond
said: “We are committed to continue driving our One Africa strategy as well as
to work closely with our customers, clients and other stakeholders to support
the sustainable growth of Africa and to continue exploring growth opportunities
on the continent.”
Barclays
Bank Tanzania Managing Director, Kihara Maina said: “As part of the Barclays
Africa Group, we will continue to play an important role in the country to
ensure that the benefits of Africa’s growth story are realised by the people of
Tanzania.”
