Media Institute of Southern Africa, Tanzania Chapter (MISA-TAN) is a dynamic member driven regional non governmental organization which seeks through monitoring, research, policy lobbying and advocacy and distribution of information, to foster free, independent and diverse media throughout Southern Africa in the services of democracy and development as stated in the Windhoek declaration of Press Freedom, 1991 and the African Charter on Broadcasting, 2003. In this regard, applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the vacancy below:
Job Title : National Director
Reports to : National Governing Council and MISA Regional secretariat
Contract period : Two years: may be renewed
Job Description:
• Shall be Chief Executive Officer and head of the secretariat;
• Shall be overall in charge of day to day activities and manage funds of MISA-TAN;
• Develops and proposes to the National Governing Council for approval, financial and human resource policy, strategic and annual plans and budgets;
• Recruits the personnel to run the activities of the secretarial pursuant to human resource policy and requirements and subject to approval of the National Governing Council;
• Coordinate meetings of the National Governing Council and a secretary to such meetings;
• Develop and implement the strategic advocacy, monitoring and fundraising plans for the organization;
• Shall be the accounting officer of all MISA-TAN accounts and cash transactions; and
• Custodian of all MISA-TAN assets and thereby advice the National Governing Council on proper management and utilization of the assets available.
Qualifications:
• Must be a suitable, qualified person with a minimum of a University degree in Journalism with management background. Post qualification experience in media and related field will be an added value;
• Must have a good track record of experience and diligence in a similar senior position at least for a period of 3 years;
• Knowledge of media freedom and freedom of expression and issues surrounding new media technologies and ICT;
• Ability to integrate and communicate with other media networks, key decision makers, and liaison with national and international media organization;
• Promoting the objective of MISA-TAN at the national and international levels;
• Must be capable of working independently, ready and willing to serve the organization even on voluntary basis;
• Strong knowledge of leadership, management of resources and fundraising skills are added advantages; and
• Age between 30-45 years
