MWANANCHI COMMUNICATIONS LTD COMMISSIONS ITS NEW PRINTING PRESS AND CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF ITS FOUNDING.
Mwananchi Communications Limited – the publisher of Mwananchi, The Citizen and Mwanaspoti, commissions its new printing press on 30th July 2010 – starting at 10.30am. The function is part of activities to mark the 10th year since the company was founded and published the first newspaper (Mwananchi) on the 27th May 2000 followed by Mwanaspoti in 2001 and The Citizen in 2004.
Mwananchi and Mwanaspoti are the leading newspapers in the Daily Swahili and Sports papers respectively. The function will be officiated by His Excellency Ambassador Juma Mwapachu – Secretary General of the East African Community.
MCL was founded by Ambassador Ferdinand Ruhinda and Honourable Rostam Aziz but is now a subsidiary of Nation Media Group which is a publicly listed company and quoted in the Nairobi Stock Exchange. The company is one of several companies that are part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).
The purchase of the new printing press acquired from Manugraph of India at a cost of US$4 million, is a milestone in the operations of the company now able to put out the best printed quality newspapers in the country. In the last 18 months, MCL has enhanced and re-designing Mwananchi and Mwanaspoti newspapers. The Citizen is set for content and design enhancement before the end of the year.
These recent investments will support the drive towards distinguishing our products and ensuring market leadership.
